Food prices and Gas prices are killin us!
I need to learn how to make my own tortias, my own cheese, my own butter and my own wine. As for gas . I am thinking about getting 2 snow machines for winter with a little kid cart to pull and a couple of four wheelrs for summer. Ohh hopefully that will be cheeper and funner.

I hear you! another northern spirit...cannot help you with tortillas, but being in Alaska you should try bannock. I have a very old book called Stocking Up that has recipies for butter and cheese... purchased from our local library for 25 cents. a friend said she picked it up on e-bay cheaply. I love making homemade wine; on the internet try Jack Keller, the best with tons of info and all the recipies you will ever need, or winemaker magazine.com
snow machines and 4 wheelers use gas...have you tried dogs with sled or 'skijoring' (dog pulling you with skis on)?
