Food prices and Gas prices are killin us!

I need to learn how to make my own tortias, my own cheese, my own butter and my own wine. As for gas . I am thinking about getting 2 snow machines for winter with a little kid cart to pull and a couple of four wheelrs for summer. Ohh hopefully that will be cheeper and funner.

Berry picking season...Yeah!!

Yesterday the kids and I went cranberry picking by the creek. We have a allot of high bush cranberries on the property. We picked enough to make a batch of cranberry muffins. They turned out good, still a little more tart than I would have liked. Of course the kids and the hubby don't mind at all . I think that they are just happy I'm baking so often. When we went berry picking I noticed we have allot of raspberry bushes on the property. They are not ripe enough yet but I will keep my eye on them. Also blueberry picking will be here in about 3 to 4 weeks and I am going to harvest as much as I can of those. I will have to start collecting recipes for jams and syrups. So if anybody has any good recipes and don't mind sharing that would be fantastic. Thanks

Our new life together.

My family and I have just finally moved from our 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home with the Desire for a more simple life. We want to become more self sufficient. We have already taught ourselves how to live without allot of things that we really don't need. Now we want to be able to live off of the land and the earth around us. We now live in a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom cabin on 5 acres of beautiful land with a nice creek running through it. We do have running water and electricity right now.
Our dream is to build a couple of echo-domes and use solar panels to generate our own electricity. Soon we will start to get our goat and chicken pens built and we hope to accomplish this before winter is here. Unfortunately that might come sooner than we hoped. It has been raining for 4 days strait and there is snow on the mountains just above us.
Anyway, I am very new at this whole homesteading thing but want to become better at it so if anybody has good stuff to share with me I'm all ears. Thanks
